Noosa Jazz Party News
Dates Thursday September 4th to Sunday 7th 2014
Noosa Jazz Party – world class classic jazz.
A survey of members of the audience at the Noosa Jazz Party showed just how much the format and choice of musicians really hit the spot with discerning jazz lovers.
Eighty five per cent rated the Noosa Jazz Party as excellent (64%) or very good (21%) while 12% rated it as good. They commented very positively about the quality of the musicians and the format which lent itself to a great deal of innovation and improvisation.
In particular the audience were entranced by Paris-based singer Tricia Evy who with Dan Barnett performed on four nights at the Bicentennial Hall and at the Father’s Day luncheon at the Riverdeck Restaurant. Her new CD ‘Beginnings’ was in great demand and on some nights sold out completely.
But it was the breadth and variety of ‘Classic Jazz’ presented that received general praise. A number of jazz enthusiasts from interstate and New Zealand reckoned that it was “as good (probably better) as anywhere else in Australia’ while others thought it was ‘a fantastic opportunity to hear world class traditional jazz’. Patrons also commented favourably on the quality and value of the food and drinks available and the ease of parking at the venue.
It was summed up pretty well by one patron from NSW who commented:
“I thought the atmosphere at tonight’s celebration was electric – and so well organised…… a friendly welcome from all concerned, the availability of refreshments, and the organisation of comfortable tables and chairs for patrons…….well done!!!”
The survey results also bode well for the Noosa Jazz Party in 2014 with 92% of respondents saying that they intend to come again next year.
In a separate survey, the musicians who played at the Jazz Party were full of praise for how well they were looked after by Noosa Heads Jazz Club who organise the Jazz Party - 20% rated this as good and 80% as excellent. When asked to compare it against other Jazz Festivals, 93% of musicians said it was either superior (57%) or very superior (36%) to other Festivals.
These very favourable ratings and comments no doubt contributed to the result that all of the musicians said that they would like to be included in next year’s Jazz Party.
Richard Stevens, President of the Noosa Heads Jazz Club who organised the Noosa Jazz Party paid tribute to the hard working band of musicians, volunteers and contributors who helped make the Jazz Party such a resounding success and thanked all concerned for their support. The Jazz Party arranged over 40 hours of jazz performances over 3 venues. We thank our supporters Daddows Honda, Noosa Today, Tourism Noosa, Lever law and Jill and Justin Campbell. Accommodation sponsors Chez Noosa and Sandy Court were fantastic to us. The Jazz Party funded the rest of our accommodation and we thank Rose Callaghan realty and Sundancer apartments for arranging that.
We will be looking for more venues next year particularly in the areas of Sunshine Beach and Noosaville where we have had requests for them to be included. We will also search for donated accommodation throughout the Tourist areas. This year we were unable to access more than a few rooms and as a community association we feel we can look forward to more support in that area in future.
“We must be doing something pretty right and we hope that we can help to make next year’s Jazz Festival much more enjoyable by taking up on some of the positive feedback and suggestions from these two surveys” Mr Stevens said.
